Spannerman – pictures, sounds and videos

Spannerman dan performs music on home-made instruments made from found and recycled objects. Including a xylophone made from spanners.

Available for indoor or outdoor performances -Outside in any space, fun and fascinating music on a mobile, battery-powered sound system featuring the spannerphone, singing bowls and other curious home mades (festival No6, Spare Parts Fleetwood, Lamplighter Todmorden, Valley of Lights…see comments below) Inside or in quieter spaces more attention can be paid to the magical processes of turning household/workshop items into sounds and music.

Spannerman transforms any space with danceable grooves or eerie melodies, lights up a carnival and adds a quirky twist to the party.

Spannerman is also available for workshops – demonstrations of the physics of sounds, discussions of world music or recycling/reuse. Suitable for children, adults, SEN groups, musicians, theatre makers,…

These people enjoyed Spannerman:

“It took me a while to track down the magical tinkling sound emanating from the canal during the Festival of Light but there, nestling in a boat was a musician drawing the audience close with his haunting, lingering music. Me and my boys sat with the other families wrapped in a blanket of sound.” Helen Meller director Hebden Bridge Arts Festival

Facebook comments after Valley of Lights Festival

You are too modest Daniel, your performance was amazing And absolutely the greenest thing I have seen for a long time.  Mark Loudon

You were amazing Daniel, great music, creativity and sound loved meeting you last night, was great to see such a brilliant idea and creative new instrument. Kathryn Pogue

Bloke playing spanners. It was brilliantly bonkers! Kris Ball

that music was so cool and calm after the mayhem of the carnivals wasn’t it!  Valley of Lights

It was great to meet you, albeit briefly, and to listen to your beautiful music at Festival No.6. You’ll be pleased to know that my statement of hearing your performance was the high point of the festival for me didn’t change with anything I later experienced there.   David Merchant. (festival No6)
